postcard from the road

Dear Nana and Grandpa,

Ohio is not the same without you both.  We miss hanging out in your room and having snacks at night, and eating whole wheat glazed donuts together (because without you there are none).  Mom misses the daily dish and debriefing and having you down the hall from us.  It has been fun though.  The first night at Grandma's we had pizza for dinner and she gave us each a mini Ben & Jerry's ice cream and Coke and Dr. Pepper too - such a treat.  She wouldn't let Alex wash the dishes.  Logan still loves hugging Athen, and Aunt Judy got Athen two new monster trucks to play with and take home.  We even played a fun beanbag tossing game in the yard until we all got eaten by bugs.  The trampoline was still there but we didn't jump on it (yet!).  It looks very tempting over there.

The next day we went to lunch with everyone (Chuck, Vicki and Aunt Judy too!), and Grandma surprised us at Ruby Tuesdays by stopping in to treat us on her way to visit Howard.  It was a nice surprise!  I ate super spicy wings.  After, we all went to the Boonshoft museum and had fun playing in the water.  Athen still loves the recycling room and did two giant puzzles with mom.  Dad took us in the wind tunnel (and Uncle A paid for the ride) and Athen screamed the whole time but wants to keep looking at the picture mom took of us in there, calling it "the chilly" and saying he doesn't like it.  Later me and mom and dad and Uncle A and Athen went to see Howard.  Uncle A gave him the hat he got him and he wanted help fitting it on his head.  It looked nice on him.  He seems to be doing well even though we had to keep telling Athen to stop accidentally stepping on his oxygen line!  We all had hot chocolate together.  It was a nice visit, but I am a little concerned about him.  Last time I visited dad's Nana in the nursing home she died.  I hope we are not bad luck.  Mom told me we aren't.  When we were saying goodbye, all the nurses laughed at Athen because he said it so loudly they could here him down the hall.  It was a busy day.

Today is the big birthday celebration and it should be fun, but we are all sad you aren't here.  We are thinking a lot about you and Grandpa.  Everyone is so glad he is getting better!  We have to go get wrapping paper to wrap all the gifts for Grandma.  I made her a special necklace out of sea glass beads and pearls and Athen and I painted shells from the beach for her as well.  Mom will take lots of pictures and will try to post them on facebook for you.

Keep an eye on your mailbox for a postcard from me!  Vacation is going by so fast and tomorrow we take Uncle A to the airport and head to Hershey Park.  Mom said I can eat as much chocolate as I want.

We miss you.

Love,
Owen
